Default Petition for "Faction Merchant"

To the ArenaNet staff:

We cannot say enough how much we appreciate your bringing us such an excellent game as Guild Wars, and its subsequent expansion/second chapter: Factions. You have stood with dedication and determination and have brought the world of online gaming a real experience. And all without those annoying subscription fees!

This having been said, we have a suggestion to make regarding your game world. We have found that Role-Playing characters (hereby referred to as RPG characters; as opposed to PvP only characters) are at a disadvantage in the "Balthazar's Faction" market. As RPG players, we have access to all arena's, but because our weapons are not "perfect" inherently, as the weapons of PvP characters are, we are at a in-bred disadvantage. This is not the problem we address in this petition, however. Some necessary balance is required, because RPG characters do have some advantages over standard PvPers.

However, as RPG characters, we ask that an easier way of obtaining faction be considered for us. It would be possible, with very little effort, to create "Faction Merchants," NPCs with the ability to trade Balthazar's Faction for Gold and (if possible), items such as dyes and crafting materials to players. This would allow primarily RPG characters to venture more fully into PvP, by allowing us to create PvP only characters with full superior runes and weapon upgrades.

We do not presume to set forth exchange rates or any such obviously developer-decided traits, but would suggest something along the lines of the current dye and crafting material traders, with prices based along supply and demand. This might also open the possibility of player-to-player Balthazar's Faction trades: X number of Balthazar's Faction for gold pieces, gold items, dye, rare crafting materials, etc. etc. This would also lend itself more to the supply/demand merchant style.

Thank you for listening, and once again, for a great game,

Your humble players.

You get factions for doing favors for each side. Buying faction wouldn't make sense, plus it's lazy considering how easy it is to build up faction presentaly.

As I said it's lazy and I know a lot of people will sign just for that reason.

first thing, its not that hard to get max or even better weapons with a pve character, there are the collectors items, there are the green weapons, as far as i remember, my guild used first only pvp characters, but moved to use pve characters because these have an advantage over pvp.

now, i agree with part of the idea, but not all.

you should not be able to buy faction with money, not balthazar, kurzick or luxon faction. period. (in my opinion)

but i agree that there should be more uses for the faction, kurzick/luxon faction (for a start) should also allow you get requisition equipment/luxon totems, whereas the the balthazar faction should allow you to modify your weapon like:

you find a low lvl req 11 weapon, has a nice looking skin or its the first sword your warrior ever used and you kept it as a keepsake. with Xk faction you could increase its damage level from the first lvl (this is just a guess) from 2-8 to 4-12, to raise it from this level to the next would cost other, a bit higher faction price, in the end, to raise it to the maximun dmg lvl swords have would cost 10k balthazar faction, giving your sword the 18-25 max damage (im not sure if this is the max damage for swords ).

also, balthazar faction would allow you to upgrade your weapon mods for example a 10/20 sundering mod, upgrade it to 15/20, and then upgrading it to 20/20, each time costing you 5k faction, upgrading it this way would never increase the chances beyond the max upgrade possible.

I support the petition for the in-game "Balthazar's Faction Merchant"

IGN: Oberon Shadowking
Region: Europe

Note to readers:

The idea of the proposed merchant is not to make the "rich get richer" or the "lazy get lazier" etc., but instead to level the PvP skills field between PvP only characters and PvE characters. A Faction Merchant would allow PvE characters with money to spend to get themselves into the PvP arena without the agony of hundreds of hours of failed PvPs and short forays into RA to get faction just to build a perfect character. In addition, by allowing freer access to Balthazar's Faction, this would push an emphasis on SKILL, rather than time spent/faction earned. If everyone has the same skills, it becomes the people who are better at USING the skills who win, rather than those who have more time to spend to unlock every good skill.

PvE characters are ment to have more choices than PvP characters, you can see it in the smallest of things such as weapon and armor skins.

Also I would think someone who earned their 10k Balth factions the current way shows plenty of "SKILL"

Let's look at this Thematically.

You have a God who patrons violence, combat, survival, and all things like that. Now, you want to gain his favor through something as "cowardly" and "weak" as a monetary trade route?

You can't buy your good name, not with a God of violence.

Your faction is your "fame" or "standing" with that God. It's how renowned you are, how famous or how favored. You've done what that God idolizes, and you are known for it.

In no way should you be allowed to trade/buy that.

---

Now, I have _no_ problem with finding something to APPLY those accumulated faction points to.

-Upgrades (either mod or stat, as was mentioned with imperfect weapons) from Balthazar.

-Sheilds from Dwayna (since no "warrior" would think defensively, but with the "offensive bloodlust" or what have you, and that defense would be left to a God more concerned with healing.)

-Staves, Off-Hands, Wand upgrades (or making imperfects perfect) from Lyssa.

etc.

Not saying that I want to see these implimented (they'd be cool, but it adds a whole new spin to the game... "Champions of [Insert God]" and all that, or probably "Farmer of [Insert God]"), but they are ideas AND it shows my original point of keeping consistant with the patronage of said Gods.
